Review: Courtyard by Marriott Seoul Namdaemun, South Korea

Courtyard by Marriott Seoul Namdaemun is a relatively new hotel, built in year 2016 and offering 409 rooms. It is well-located near Namdaemun Market, and is approximately equidistant to Seoul Station and Myeongdong, making it a good choice for leisure travellers who are exploring Seoul.

As you enter the hotel lobby, you will be greeted with the sight of the floors above, which brings into natural light into the lobby. The hotel could clearly have fit in more rooms into each floor, but opted to retain a hollow centre which was a nice feature. This also meant that the elevator rides are particularly enjoyable, as you can see the hallways of each floor as you go up or down.

The rooms were modern and equipped with standard amenities. Some rooms feature views of the Namsan Seoul Tower, or the "N Seoul Tower". One observation about the room was that the bathroom was fitted with glass walls, and privacy curtains were installed on the outside of the glass panels, which also left about a centimetre uncovered, which might potentially lead to some awkward situations.

The executive lounge on the 22nd floor was a delightful treat. Generally, Courtyard by Marriott properties have lounges in Asia Pacific, while they are generally not present in US properties. Guests with lounge access (those who booked an executive room or those with elite benefits) may enjoy hot food and alcoholic drinks during the evening cocktail hours. A breakfast spread is also offered in the mornings.

The hotel does not have a swimming pool, but there is a 24-hour fitness centre on-site. Overall, Courtyard by Marriott Seoul Namdaemun offers a good stay at a good location.
