Review: JW Marriott Beijing Central, China
Built in 2013, the JW Marriott Beijing Central (北京粤财 JW 万豪酒店) is located in the Xuanwumen precinct of Xicheng district, Beijing, China. Roughly 45 minutes by car from Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK), it is a well-appointed 5-star hotel with 412 guest rooms. Note that this is different from the older JW Marriott Beijing, which is located in Chaoyang district instead and opposite The Ritz Carlton Beijing.
The lobby area is bright, tall and a comfortable respite from the cold winter when I visited. The check-in agents were friendly and I was assigned a room on the executive floor (15th floor). The concierge was also helpful with taxi bookings using their local ride-hailing apps, which would be especially convenient for foreign guests. Travellers would also be happy to note that the Wifi service does not have content restrictions, so they may use Google and other services at their convenience.
I also elected to receive strawberry ice cream and a pair of beers as my Marriott Bonvoy Elite welcome gift (other choices also available), which was delivered to the room. The room itself was clean, spacious and modern.
Being on the executive floor meant easy access to the executive lounge. In the evening cocktail hours, a surprisingly large spread of food were available to complement the selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. This included Chinese dishes, sushi rolls, soups and cold cut meats which might appear at first glance to have cannibalized the sales of the three restaurants that the hotel operates. Alcoholic beverages at the lounge is also available after the cocktail hours, but at a fee.
The hotel has a large fitness centre on its top floor, providing a good selection of fitness equipment alongside views of the surrounding precinct.
While breakfast is offered at the executive lounge, a much larger selection is also available in the main restaurant on the 4th floor, which is simply named "JW Kitchen". It had a good selection of Chinese and international dishes. The other restaurants in the hotel are Man Ho which serves Chinese dishes, and Casalingo which is an Italian restaurant.
Overall, JW Marriott Beijing Central is a good luxury hotel for both business and leisure travellers. The highlight of my stay was definitely the service and ambiance at the executive lounge. There is also a mid-sized shopping mall adjacent to the hotel for guests' convenience.
JW Marriott Beijing Central is located at 18 Xuanwai Street, Xicheng District, Beijing 118305, China (not to be confused with JW Marriott Beijing).
