The Moxy brand by Marriott International has established its presence in Germany progressively since the opening of the Moxy Munich Airport in 2016. Today, there are more than 10 Moxy hotels across the country, with more to launch in the coming years. The Moxy Hamburg City in the north German port city is one of these hotels seeking to offer a fun, spirited and stylish experience to the next generation traveller.

Located within a 5-minute walk of Berliner Tor train station (with S1, S2, S5, U2, U3 and U4 bahn services), the hotel is on a quiet street in the same area as several other hotels. There are 291 rooms in total across four room types; no suites are available.

The reception desk is integrated with the hotel bar and can be found on the left after entering the hotel. A grab-and-go area with drinks and packaged snacks is on the right.

On the ground floor, there is a small social corner with a foosball table and fireplace with artwork painted on concrete walls. Alternatively, guests can hang out at the restaurant/bar area which has a large seating area and a collection of board games to borrow.

Guest rooms
The room types are the hotel range from the Moxy Sleeper Queen/Twin, which are a compact 17 sqm. Slightly larger is the Moxified Triple Sleeper, which can accommodate three guests at 20 sqm in size. The largest room, the Moxified Family Sleeper, can sleep up to four guests.

The furnishings are quite basic, as is the case for Moxy hotels usually, and are designed to save space. For instance, there is no conventional wardrobe but just places to hang your clothes. A bottled drink and chocolate were provided as welcome amenity. Note that there are no fridges are the hotel.

There is a small gym in the basement available for 24-hour use. While not as extensive as full service hotels, there is some boxing equipment available, which is certainly nice to have.

Breakfast takes place at the restaurant on the ground floor, which was very relaxed and easy. Items included pastries, cold cuts, and a big pot of scrambled eggs.

Overall, the Moxy Hamburg City is a basic and reliable hotel with the distinction of being among the cheapest Marriott properties in Hamburg. It's nothing to shout about, but it delivers what it promises.
