Hopewell Hotel Hong Kong Review - Brand-new in Wan Chai

Hong Kong's Wan Chai district now boasts some of the city's newest rooms with the addition of Hopewell Hotel which marked its soft opening in December 2024. While some rooms and facilities are still being completed, Hopewell Hotel will have 1,000 rooms across 17 room types when fully opened, ranking it among some of the largest hotels in Hong Kong.

Hopewell Hotel is within a 5-minute walk from Wan Chai MTR station. It is connected to Hopewell Mall, which also opened the same month and features Japan's home furnishing brand Nitori and children's store Toys "R" Us.

Twin Deluxe room at 300 sqft

The rooms here are very generous in land-scarce Hong Kong and stretch up to 3,888 sqft for premium suites. The Deluxe Twin Room has a conventional layout, just like what one would imagine a standard hotel room to be. But everything, from the carpet to the furniture, is brand new.

Coffee and tea makers are available alongside a sheet containing the operating instructions. Canned water is offered instead of bottled water, and the housekeeper was kind enough to offer me some extra ones without me asking.

The bathroom is adequate and nice touches include a dressing stool and a good (non-Dyson) hairdryer. Disposable amenities like toothbrushes are all neatly packed in a box.

While the room is all fresh and new, it did unfortunately leave a few signs of imperfections. Spotted on the bathroom wall were a few pieces of residue likely left behind from the renovation process. Additionally, the finishing of the bedroom wall had some visible imperfections.

Fitness centre with all-new equipment

There is a very decent fitness centre with brand-new equipment. It was completely empty when I went to take a look.

Buffet breakfast

Daily breakfast is served at the lobby cafe. It was a tasty breakfast and the noodle soup station was appreciated. However, as a side note, it seemed that the bright orange attire of the waiting staff did not blend well with the surroundings.

Impression: Not perfect but great service for now

It is always exciting to stay at a new hotel and take in the smell of a new room. Indeed, the hotel certainly looked fresh and shiny. It was no doubt a comfortable, even if not particularly innovative. I do think, however, that the hotel would benefit from inspecting its rooms carefully and ensuring that the finishings are in order.

The best part of my stay was the hotel staff. In particular, I met probably the most friendly and welcoming housekeeper I have encountered for a while. The staff at the lobby were also anticipative and helpful towards guests.

Nonetheless, I stayed less than a month into the hotel's soft opening and at a time when the occupancy rate was low. One's perception of service quality could very well change when the hotel gets up and running at full capacity. Let's see how it goes from here.
